Raise the Roof tells the stories of AFL fans who have experienced homelessness – or come close to it – but have since found a safe place to call home.
Behind each statistic about homelessness is a person with hopes and dreams, including seeing their team climb to the top of the ladder and win a flag. Footy is more than a game – it's about resilience and community, and through a shared love of the sport, people create a sense of identity and belonging.
The people photographed for this project remind us that homelessness can touch anyone in our community—neighbours, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, people sitting next to us in the stands – George Hatvani, Head of Systems Change and Advocacy at Launch Housing
The people featured in the display are united by the role football plays in their lives
Just a short walk from Fed Square and the MCG, you can view the display until August 24th.
Location: Greenline hoardings, Birrarung Marr, along the walk from Fed Square to the MCG
Together, let’s raise the roof to end homelessness
