Collingwood 25+ year member – McKenna and Price remain his heroes.
Faced homelessness.
Now safely housed.
I've barracked for Collingwood all me life. It’s the greatest game ever. The competitiveness, the community - being part of it all.
Me grandparents took me to every game when I was younger, and I’ve barracked for Collingwood all me life. They’d take me to the foyer and have a beer and socialise, and I got autographs. Peter McKenna is one of my heroes, he’s a gun. So is Barry Price. The highlight of my life with football has been joining the Collingwood Football Club in the 1990s and being a member for over 25 years.
It’s the greatest game ever. The competitiveness, being part of it all - the community. It always feels good to come back to Victoria Park, I have so many memories here. It’s home.
I was in a situation where I could have been homeless: The place I was renting was decommissioned and demolished. Then I received a notice that I could be eligible for an apartment with Launch Housing. I got accepted. It meant I could stay in Melbourne, close to me mates, and still go watch the mighty Magpies. The best thing is I’ve found a home, and I don’t have to worry about being homeless.
I’ve been there 18 months now, it’s got all the essentials I need and the staff have been really supportive. I’m getting to know my neighbours.
Homelessness is physical, but I think there’s a mental part of it as well. People always see the negative side, I don’t think they focus on the positives about people who are experiencing it.
